Home schooling

Homeschooling is the form of education of the children tendered at home, ideally by the parents. There is no need to going school. Earlier, when the compulsory school attendance laws were not in force, most childhood education was offered by the family members or the community. Only a crème of the society was getting the advantage of formal schooling or educated by the private tutors or governess.

There are different reasons for parents not sending their offspring to the school. They may be not satisfied enough with the local schooling system, they may stay in such a remote place that it is not possible for the children to attend schools regularly, or there may be some personal reasons also. It is seen that some children respond better to the personal care. Some of them can not keep a regular school program for medical reasons. Whatever the reason may be, the craze of home schooling is increasing day by day.

Education under the comfort of home environment does not mean there is no binding. There are some places, where an approval from the concerned authority is legally mandatory if somebody is planning for home schooling.

If you are thinking your child for a homeschooling, first assess the personality of your child and the hobbies. You should note the area of his attention also. You may consider the following points also-

a) Homeschooling is a nearly full time job. It is not that sitting with some text books for couple of hours. A lot of other activities are required. These include preparing the lessons according to the curriculum, making the questions for the exams and reviewing the answer sheets, excursions on weekends, music and art lessons and the list is never ending.

b) Homeschooling will end the income from either of the parents. It may a difficult situation. You need to sacrifice a bit. Besides, you have to curtail your other personal recreations. You can not think about going to party which you were enjoying earlier, you will have to limit the weekend trips. You will be required to remain with your child for most of the times.

c) There are some good points also. You will tailor your child’s behavior and the social contacts. The beauty of homeschooling is you will have the power to purify your child’s upbringing.

d) Your house cleaning has to be top class because homeschooling may create a mess around your rooms.

There are positive as well as negative aspects of homeschooling your child. You have to make a decision between the formal and the homeschooling.
